My wife wants a Laptop for Christmas. Web surfing, DVD watching, light gaming.

Should I jump on a Staples CPQ900 or HP4000 today or wait a couple weeks for sales.

Your informed opinions appreciated.

Thanks

I don't want to spend over $1,200 after rebates.

I don't see any DVD option on iBook. Plus, isn't a 12" screen kinda small for surfing?

Powernotebooks.com has some great top of the line laptops for $$$ less than Dell and the other guys. #1 company on resellerratings.com too.

*unnatural twitch* 15.7" TFT ... holy hell. That's big. But according to the page, only 1280x1024. Ah well. Mobility Radeons seem to be standard on the 15" line, and the 14" is nothing to laugh at with the gF4 Go.

But still - it's going to depend on how "light" the gaming is. A Mobility 7500 should be fine.

I've had a hard on for this 4.64 pound beauty for about 20 minutes, drool.

Back to your question, if you can find a good deal (under $800 shipped) on a laptop through Staples mad sales then buy now ... otherwise wait 3-4 weeks for a nice deal on the better Dell Inspiron 4150.

Are there any hot dell deals that Canadians can cash in on? It only seems fair, Michael Dell is a canuck .. or at least, that's what our Canadian propagandists tell us for the sake of national pride.
Seriously though, how does a Canuck cash in on dell deals? Coupons? What are these coupons people keep talking about and where do you get them?

I thought he was a texan, born and raised.

Except from Dell.com

"My parents first sparked my interest in business. We lived in Houston. My mother was a financial advisor and my father an orthodontist. When I was a kid in the 1970s, we'd sit around the dinner table talking about inflation, the oil crisis -- that sort of thing. When I was a second-grader I started my first business, selling candy. In third grade I applied in the mail for a high school equivalency degree. I saw this thing in the back of a magazine, and I thought, 'I'll try that.' A few weeks later this woman knocked on the door and said, 'Is Mr. Michael Dell there?' And my mother said, 'What is this in regards to?' And the woman said, 'We're from the so-and-so company, and we'd like to talk to him about high school equivalency.' And my mother said, 'Well, he's taking a bath right now, but I'll get him.' So I came out in my little red bathrobe. As soon as the saleswoman saw me, she decided that was the end of her sales pitch."

A Canadian hot deal on a Dell laptop? I've seen maybe 2 in the past 4 years.

You're better off asking a U.S. friend order the laptop, pay for it and ship it to their U.S. address, then they either deliver it to you or ship it to you and you pay them back, then they can go to Dell's website and transfer legal ownership of the laptop to you (not sure if/how the warranty is affected).

Assuming the laptop is in mint condition, has no dead pixels and the warranty is in tact that's an awesome deal.

UberDave,

I appreciate the offer but if I gave my wife a used Lappy I'd never hear the end of how cheap I am. (some truth to it too 🙂 )

all things listed could be done much more comfortably with a nice desktop. especially if you pay the same amount u would have for a laptop, u could splurg on a nice lcd monitor or something😛 unless she's got a desperate need to do everything on the run, laptops overrated.

I want a dig camera and a lappy...but i'm waiting for holiday season..
a few weeks more and i'm sure there are better deals.
