Hi all...
I am experiencing an annoying little problem. As of late whenever I power my system on (ABIT KT7aRAID/ TBIRD 1000) I get no video, no boot.....just fans spinning, lights on...BUT when I then power OFF the powersupply from the back for a second, then turn it back on and boot, all is fine.

I have upgraded the BIOS last night to the WZ110b and even gone back to default CPU settings but it doesnt help..... this started sporadically a bout a week ago now its all the time.

My question......
Is this a result of an inadequate power supply OR is the CPU in need of having the L1 bridges redone better.... (pencil trick is how I did it...)

I have that problem every time I flash my BIOS (which I have done several times now). You basically have to discharge the PSU to get it to boot. I have (as yet) no idea why this happens.

Which PSU do you have?

You could be on the ball there with the L1 bridges. If the BIOS is detecting the wrong multiplier then that would cause it not to POST...

You might also want to check all your connections!

Im using a Deer 300w that came with the case..... I know its not quite high quality so maybe thats the problem... Id like an Antec smart POwer 300w but didnt want to spend the money if it wasnt necessary.....

I just dont see (but know Im probably oblivious or just plain wrong...) how the bridges could be the problem. Id figure that either it works or it doesnt. How can a PSU discharge do anything to make a bad bridge work? Espescially if when it does come on ALL BIOS setting remain the same..... unlike a Clear CMOS or BIOS lockup when you overclock too high and the system comes back on at default/safe settings like 500mhz....right?

maybe I'll see what my PC at work has in it as far as PSU..... these OCed Abit/Tbird combos are a pain..... theyre really picky arent they?

Did you guys figure this problem out yet at all? I seem to have the same issue as you folks... only I'm using an Epox 8kta3. :(

One thing that can cause this is your Duron feeling emotionally distressed due to the overclocking expectations required of it - the poor things go into "sulking mode" then refuse to come out and play :(

However one real cause of that often inexplainable problem is some type of interference from the heatsink fan or heatsink fan cable.

My mates TB 800/Abit KT7A refused to boot unless we held the fan power cable along side the main power cable!
My other mates 700 Duron/KT7-RAID refused to boot until I turned the fan from the heatsink thru 180 degrees!
My other mates 700 Duron and TB 900/ASUS A7V had the same problem only his CPU's decided that they were not feeling too suliy and decided eventually to come out and play :)

One of the problems with the KT7's that has been kinda "forgotten" is that a noisey fan tac line can cause boot problems.

I solved the problem with a new power supply. I picked up an Antec 400w smart power for only $50 at Best Buy..... they accidentally gave it to me for the price of a 300w as they rang the wrong UPC.... I was only going to buy it to test it out and return it if it didnt work but at that price since it solved the issue Im keeping it.

I did alos redo the L1 bridges at the same time with the defogger kit one I found the PSU solved the issue..

good luck...this is a tempermental board with a lot of little quirks.
