HELP!!!
I help a couple friends out with their computers, and after installing the latest round of upgrades, both computers will not boot windows, identically complaining that they cannot load \??\C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\WIN32K.SYS

The hardware configuration of the two machines is as follows:

KT7
Duron 750(running 8.5x100)
128Meg PC133
20gig drive
Toshiba DVD/CDRW
SB Live OEM
Geforce2MX
Linksys v4 10/100

KT7a
1.2gig tbird (running 9x133)
512meg PC150 RAM
Adaptec AAA-UDMA controller
4 x IBM 75GXP 45gig (NOT CONNECTED TO ONBOARD IDE!!!)
Pioneer IDE 16X slot load DVD (connected as primary master on MB)
SBLive OEM
Geforce2Pro
3com 3c905B NIC

Software wise, the computers were running Win2K SP1 with 4in1 4.28 or 4.27 I believe, and the detonator 8 drivers.

First I installed Win2k SP2 using the network installer.
Then I installed the 4in1 version 4.32 from via's website
then I installed the new detonator drivers.

after each driver install I rebooted.

About fifteen or twenty minutes after the computers were rebooted, both crashed. When they rebooted, I got the following blue screen stop error:

Could not load \??\C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\WIN32K.SYS

The computer would reboot 5 seconds after bluescreening or so. And do it again and again.

Win2K recovery options didnt help.
Win2K safe mode didnt help.

There didnt appear to be any file corruption of the WIN32K.SYS file.

Any ideas on where to go?

Wait! I read your message a little farther..sorry about that.

Simply put: Windows2000 has problems...and I don't have very much experience with it, but that's because I simply do NOT trust it.

All I can really say is make sure to get Windows2000 drivers and make sure they're not just BETA drivers or anything. Otherwise I'd simply say:

Reinstall Windows2000.

Now if I recall correctly, WIN2000 will be able to repair itself without having to format and start over.

Just reinstall the OS over the top of the one that's already on there. The new drivers SHOULD still be there and the corrupted driver or file should fix itself by being reinstalled.

Best Luck To You!!
