HELP! KR7A-RAID + Audigy card only works in 2-speaker mode and drivers won't upgrade

I just installed an Athlon XP 1900+ and ABIT KR7A-RAID combo.

My Audigy card, which worked perfectly on my ASUS P3V4X (VIA Apollo Pro 133A chipset) sortof works on my KR7A-RAID (using Windows XP Pro). The drivers off of the CD load fine, but I can't get any sortof functionality out of the drivers except 2-speaker sound. EAX effects and the like work, but I can't get 4 speaker or 5.1 speaker sound working. When I goto run the Windows XP update for Audigy, I get an error that the installer could not find an Audigy card installed on my system!

Is this typical of the problem which requires a new Audigy card? If so, how can I guarentee that the card I'm buying is one that is compatible with the KR7A-RAID? Thanks to anyone who can provide some insight into my problem!

I have the same problem. And this is my second KR7A-Raid board. I will send back the sound card to see if the problem was the card. You can go here for more information on this issue: Click Here.

I'm going to try swapping out my sound card for a new Audigy. I'll post my results here. Hopefully that will fix the problem!

Well, just like all the reports said ... I bought a new SB Audigy Gamer from BestBuy and it works like a champ! 100% back to normal. This is the weirdest thing I have ever seen since the "broken" Audigy still worked perfectly in my old system. For kicks I tried plugging the old card back in to see if the motherboard just needed a kick or something to get going, but it still wouldn't work.

I wonder if the problem has something to do with the Audigy writing something to its NVRAM and the KR7A-RAID reading that improperly. Very strange problem. I'm very glad its fixed now though! Looks like I'll have to sell the other Audigy card to a friend.

Wow that was a fast solution. I guess I will have to get rid of mine too. Thanks for the response.

Taz,

Yeah I live practically right next door to BestBuy. And I asked them what their return policy was incase it didn't work, and they said I'd get all of my money back, even if it was open boxed. So I bought it right away and came back to test it out ... I've been going crazy trying to fix this, so I didn't want to waste anymore time with it :)

i have this exact same problem, at first it installs rite, but after the restart, i get lots of errors, and the update doesn't detect any audigy card either... i was wondering why my rears weren't working too... oh yah, my live drive doesn't work either.. i treid reinstalling, and now nothing works.....

anyone come up with a solution to any of these problems yet other than returning it? i got mine from newegg when they first came out, so i dunno if they'll take it back after this long, and i would really like to listen to some music...
