Hi,
I read some of the reviews here on Kaspersky Antivirus and most are pretty positive, so I bought the downloadable version from newegg.com.

Here is what I did:
- I unstalled the Norton AV 2005
- Rebooted the machine
- installed Kaspersky and rebooted
- Kaspersky complaint about outdated virus definition/database, fine, I will update it now.
- That's when it said it can't connect to the internet.
- Then I realize that there is a lost connection icon next to the clock on the task bar.
- I rebooted, same problem. I double check the cable modem and router connection thru a different computer and no problem there.
- So it must be Kaspersky.
- I then proceed to uninstall Kaspersky after exiting the AV program. (uninstalled everything including the "NTFS stream" thing.)
- Then rebooted.... BSOD.... great :|:|
- Rebooted again but this time, it asked to go into the last good/known configuration (or safe mode, etc.)
- I selected the last good configuration
- Windows started up fine.
- I can connect back to the internet.
- Rebooted to make sure it's still good. No problem there.
- I reinstalled Kaspersky thinking it must be a fluke or something.
- Rebooted
- same thing, lost internet connection. Couldn't "repair" the connection. Nothing.
- So I decided to uninstall Kaspersky again.
- went thru the BSOD again. This time I have to use "safe mode" and Windows restore point (from a few days ago) to get back to normal operation. :|:|:|

At this point, I think I am done with Kaspersky unless someone can tell me what I did wrong.
I am either going back to Norton or try NOD32.

Thanks.

AMD64 3500+

Try this, Open KAV 5,settings, config realtime protection, click real time protection settings link on the bottom right corner, select disable protection from network attacks.

you must be having some issue with the network module. If your behind a firewall or a device running NAT then then you wont have any problems disabling the network module.

Hi, I 2 got kav a few days ago from newegg, very good antivirus. Your problem is that you selected to install the istreams and the network security. You should not select either of those when installing. The istreams is being changed to a checksum in kav6 and much better and less intrusive. Istreams does speed up scan but I would wait for kav6 to use the speedup feature which will use checksums. now to your problem, the network security part of kav conflicts if u have a firewall already. It is intended only for those that do not have a firewall. You need to go to realtime settings and uncheck network protection. That will solve your problem. Kaspersky should not have made THAT A ROUTINE INSTALLATION PART OR THEY SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED MORE INFORMATION ON IT. If you want to uninstall kav and do a fresh install why dont you uninstall it then boot into safemode and run the kav uninstaller that removes the rest left behind after its uninstalled. Here is the link to the uninstaller. When u install again untic the install recommended components 9not the exact name but u will see the option when you first begin install.) Then the next screen you will uncheck the istreams and the network protection. install away and enjoy.
Here is pictoral of removing the network protection if u dont want to reinstall kav. this is from kav site:

Here is the kav uninstaller:

Weird, I just got the one from Newegg, and I've installed it on all my home PC's, and I have the istreams enabled without issue...

Edit:

Nevermind, it seems to be a problem with software firewalls...

iStreams is not the problem in his case, the problem is with the network security portion. Most that have a firewall or router will encounter some problem if its enabled.

Got Outpost 3.5 running with KAV 5 and behind a PIX 501. Lots of KAV 5 users with software firewalls running fine and dandy. Nothing wrong with using I streams either unless your so anal about ads streams on your pc.

Works fine here with my hardware firewall (router), and at work with a hardware firewall. I have all options enabled...

Raincity and Buchsnort were right. It was the "Network Security/Attacks" in Kaspersky that's conflicting with the Sygate software firewall.
I followed the instruction from Bucksnort's link and reinstalled KAV, I unchecked the "Operate in recommended settings", "network attacks", and IStreams, and everything seems to be working now. :D

Thanks a lot for the help.
