Ok, based on reccommendations I have narrowed it down to the NF7-S, or the Asrock K7S8X...the Asrock is much cheaper, so is there still a reason I need the K7S8X?

Also, I have 512K ddr 2100 Crucial, is this going to work in the K7S8K? Or would I need to upgrade the ram? I will do it eventually, but here is what i want to do:

1. Buy the K7S8X (if its still suggested)
2. Buy A 2500+ Barton possibly
3. and use my current ram...if I would have to buy new ram then reccommend a different
mobo...thanks.

Also, I dont need to worry about O/C...I am still a O/C novice, but currently I just want a new mobo and cpu to compliment my 9800pro..

So, will my current 2100 DDR work in the K7S8X (also will this be a "decent" step up from my ESC K7S5A?) I have to order this TONIGHT! Since I sold my old 1700+ and have to get it in the mail so I have to order a new barton or regular 2500+ and I might as well order a new mobo while im at it and get rid of this K7S5A ASAP....BUT I have to get something tonight, so I need a mobo (cheap) that will work with the barton and my current ram 2100...because I dont want to be without a comp for days and also dont want to be ordering new mobo, new cpu and new ram tonight....so, what do you reccommend? Thanks :) Of course if you can suggest something other than those two, be my guest, just try to stick within the guidlines :)

i havnt heard of that asrock mobo, but the nf7-s is definetly one of the best nforce 2 mobos. the memory should work but will slow you down some. i'd go with the nf7-s.

First off, the SiS748 chipset did appeal to me: it offers support for 200 MHz bus, wide options for tuning the memory frequencies and timings, excellent "price/performance" ratio. But the ASRock K7S8XE proved not that attractive: there are BIOS flaws, poor functionality. But from the budget user's viewpoint, this board is very attractive - at its $60 price, it has a basic set of options and at some tests it shows performance on par with nForce II (games in resolutions 1024x768 onwards).

In terms of overclocking, ASRock is absolutely of no interest: the functions to raise processor, memory voltages etc. are completely missing.

If K7S8XE had overclocking options onboard, the choice wouldn't be as evident. Besides, there is a lot of consumer niches where overclocking is not used and the main factor is the price. In this case, ASRock is a leader and offers optimum choice for various office and home computers.

This is ripped from a review site. Also, the review refers to the $51 board on newegg, not the $46. Good luck!

ive built 5 pc's in the last few months using the asrock k7s8xe (the newer version of the k7k8x that you mentioned, the "e" version uses the new sis chipset)

they have all been very easy motherboards to work with, very easy to setup and install, and they havent had any kinds of stability problems

they are "not" an overclocking motherboard!! but heck they only cost me about $29 each :D

by the way newegg has the k7s8xe for $51 ( its really worth the extra $3 over the k7s8x) the "e" model will support the athlonXP 3000+(400)and 3200+ (400) where the non "e" version only supports the (333mhz) cpu's

or if you want to spend another $3, then for $54 you can get the k7s8xe+ which adds Sata ports and RAID
