Ok I am dual booting Windows ME and Windows XP. I installed some program called BootitNG. It gives me this annoying thing when I boot up so I went into ME and deleted everything that said Bootit. Now when I turn on my computer it does the Dell loading screen then says unable to find Bootit on the EMBRM partition. These files werent in the windows directory or anything and i would of done add remove programs but it wasnt there.

I have so much on that computer, please help. When I press buttons just the annoying beeps ..... Reformating is the last last resort I have a lot of very important info on there. Thanks ...

TIPS:

1. Get another hard drive, install Win XP only.

2. Slave the first drive, get all your information.

3. Stay away from 98/ME and don't dual boot if you have to. Windows of any kind will have to be re-installed sooner or later (if your a consumer), and unless you're a competant technician, you're going to screw yourself in this situation.

4. Windows OS selector boot.ini program is small and efficient. DON'T use another program to do this...no need to.

5. If you must, boot off of the Win XP disc, and select the repair option, should repair the boot.ini to work.

well, you might have to put in a bootable floppy and run Fdish from there. Restart your PC with the bootable floppy. Floppies still have a purpose.

You should be able to fix the master boot record, as suggested, by running fdisk /mbr from a boot up floppy. Either that, or, as suggested, boot up in XP and select Repair.

As a suggestion, I would make an image of each partition using a program like drive image or ghost (once you get your pc running good again), just to help you get your data back faster if something bad like this happens again.

fixed it by playing around in fdisk having to do with active partitions or something like that
