recuva found 400 gigs of info. I haven't had time to go through it yet. My son said his files weren't intact but I think he meant folders.

He's staying at my mom's tonite, so I should have time to play with it more.

yep. He has a diabetes team. Doctor, nurse, social worker and nutritionist. Devos Children's Hospital is one of the top children's endo's in the country. I'm very grateful for them.

He ended up not feeling good and stayed home, so I still haven't taken a look at what files were recovered

Some of the boot level utilities can undo the partition table change, hell of a lot easier than trying to undelete each file. I think it was partition margic that I used to do that, once. Took like 3 minutes since I already had the disc.
