hi, i just built a new pc and its fitted with a 40gb hard drive thats 7200rpm, sometimes during bootup when its searching for whats on IDE1 (which is this hdd) it takes ages and the hdd makes really loud clicking noises, also if loading programs such as photoshop or paint shop pro it sometimes stops briefly and clicks.

anyone know what this is? and whats causing it? is it normal?

no, its made by ebuyer (.co.uk) which is a uk shop, dunno if these forums are american or british?! anyway, anyone know what it could be? why its doing this etc?

Sure, get a new HDD.
It doesn't matter who made the drive. It sounds like unusual behavior. If it's new, get your money back, or have the vendor replace it. If it's old, back up your data before you lose it and get a HDD from a major manufacturer.

i just sent a note to ebuyer, they give a quibble free refund on their drives anyway, its ebuyer but manufactured by western digital for them, so its not really a small company, but ill probably image this drive over to my old 16gb one and send this back
