Help! I've lost my floppy drive a:

I am unable to access the floppy drive "a:" all of a sudden from within Windows 98. I can use it as a boot drive and boot up from it but get a "drive is not available" message from within windows although it shows in explorer and other programs.

I am running Duron 700 on an ABIT KT7-RAID motherboard with an onboard controller.

Any ideas would be appreciated 🙂

I'm on WinNT right now so I forget exactly where, but I think in Control Panel/System you should be able to see it there, or add delete from there. Anyway, it's in Control Panel.

When you say you can access it from IE, can you actually open up something from there or does it just show the drive?

In Control Panel System it shows up as being connected installed and "working properly"

My misspeak... It is not IE but windows explorer that it shows up in but will not allow me to access it. I click on the drive and the light on the front doesn't even come on. The only access I have had was from dos boot and it allowed me to transfer some files off of it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

As an update... I have recovered the use of the floppy a few minutes ago.

I had installed a 5 1/4 drive so that a friend could transfer some OLD files. When I removed it in the bios, POP, there was the 3 1/2 floppy working again. I hadn't had a chance to use the 3 1/2 before yesterday so I did not know I had a conflict. Soooo I think that it is a bios/hardware problem... I am still curious as to why though...
