Hey people,

I got a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Router (2.4GHZ) and got my WPC11 Wireless Card for the laptop. I think I did everything correctly, setting up the router and everything but I want to be sure. I got my T1 connection going directly into my router, than got my desktop connecting to one of the connections on the router. And got my laptop connect to my router via wireless connection. Everything works fine (sometimes). Sometimes my internet dies, both on the desktop and laptop. What can be the problem? When I unhook the router and connect to the internet directly, it works. But this router just kills my connection sometimes :(

well it's not T1, it's just an ethernet connection. My ISP just claims their connection is as fast as T1. I am sure it has nothing to do with compatibility since it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. Any ideas, thanks?

Many Internet Cable Providers use the MAC number of your computer's NIC (Network Card) as a mean of authentication (Password).

Since a Router comes with his own MAC number you ISP thinks that someone is Stealing Signal and disconnect. However, all current Cable/DSL Routers provides a menu entry that will allow you to Clone the MAC number of the Registered NIC. Thus the MAC number of the main computer's NIC becomes the MAC number of the Router.

Q: What MAC number I should Use?

A: The one of the computer that works well when it is connected directly to the Cable Modem.

Q: I heard about MAC trucks, but do not know how to find Network Card MAC?

A: Download this free Proggie, unzip and Run (nothing to install). Wait a little and it will tell you these little things that are important to Local Network (including the MAC number).

TCP Network View

A: How to Clone the MAC number to my Router.

Q: Unfortunately I do not have the manual of all Routers that are out there. You will have to read your Router?s manual.

Hey man,

Thanks for the information. Yeah I knew that my ISP needs my MAC adress, so do you think giving them the MAC adress of my router will solve everything? I think not because my router sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't.

In my case, I had my router clone the MAC address of the network card in the PC I had hooked directly to my cable modem before installing the router. Worked for me.
