I have Athlon 1700+ on Abit KR7A-RAID ...I am having major problems with my Liteon 24102b cdrw...it eorked on my asus A7V133 and on intel based bx system..burns all fine...
Put together the KR7A...overclockedto 150 fsb stable..thenl iteon acted up after memory setting change and now only "reads and write to cdr/cdrw" media....it will not read a cd ...

I burned at o/c 145-150fsb and get data error ..cyclic redundancy check..so I went to default speed and..1700 + 133 fsb...no overclocking and got it again...

My question is this a cpu problem...the cpu runs fine in 3d game...Return Castle Wolfenstein was run for 1.5 hrs at 1650 11x150....

on my asus a7v133..if I burned at 147+ fsb I got these errors but if I dropped to146 or below no problems.....

My cdrom will install software at 150 fsb with no errors....I would appreciate any opinions

Yes a fresh install winxp..allows me to "burn"..but with crc errors....I am concerned that if the cpu is bad I will need to rma it....

Why not put that Tbird in you pc you are selling to see if it works? That would
illiminate the processor.

If the CDRW works on default & only didn't work in O/C...mostly probably ur CDRW can't handle the out of spec PCI bus.

Wind..The liteon was not working on my abit even at default cpu spend and voltage..it did 2 days ago..all was fine and then stopped working.....In my case the Liteon and the Abit are not happy together all of a sudden ....very strange the Acer is as happy as can be ..can read cd, cdrs, ca nwrite cdr/cdrw....no problem...

I love my Liteon but it just does not work...I put it back in my Intel piii700@945 and works fine the liteon burns great no errors...very strange indeed....

U must understand here tht even same brand & model no....sometime things just won't do it. Another circumstance is it work w/ one mobo & didn't on another. Thts wht the fundamental in O/Cing is all about....there is no guarantee.

U r in luck if it works for u. ;)

If it still didn't works @ default speed...I will look into the drivers, s/ware or settings "area". If the CDRW works at another mobo @ default...it should works. :frown:

Wind..I reset the autoplay features..I check the device manager to make sure DMA was enabled as the Liteon is Ultra dMA 2...

Not sure where else to check..winxp drivers seems fine..again under device manager the drivers look ok..

Nealh,
B4 I comment further. Ur CPU + Mobo is fine...so no worries (in case u dun know & still think tht its mobo/CPU probs).

Very interesting here. High FSB in O/Cing very rarely damage equipment. In this case, ur CDRW is OK coz it works w/ other system...hmm...
1. Have u try other burning prog ?
2. Chk ur HDD & c if it is heavily fragmented. In the process of burning, the data from the source is written to the HDD b4 burn into the destination CD/CDRW. A heavily fragmented HDD might affect the quality of writting.

One more thing. If u by any chance hv a prog called "clone cd", uninstalled it & c. I read in another thread tht one guy have a similar probs as ur...his PC won't recognise his CDRW in XP. He uninstalled clone CD & the PC works.

wind...what I did was after the problems started ..I used WinXP cd to boot and delete my partitions and reformat the drive...then a clean install of WinXP

With nothing but WinXP..no clonecd..no Nero etc...winxp sees the drive will allow to read a blank cdr or cdr and burn a file...but a original cd , written cdr will not be seen and the liteon just spins...

If I replace the Liteon with my Acer 10832 it works fine...it reads cds, write cds....

When I placed the liteon back..I get a weird tray opening/closing...etc..fix this installed clonecd and burned at any fsb from 133 to 150 and the cdr has crc errors....

Well I have given up...I love the liteon awesome drive with great pricing..so I purchased a Plx 2410....strange I love plex drives but I feel I am being ripped off given the Liteon pricing

Thanks for all the help
