I currently have cable internet service through at&t. I'm using windows 98 and a d-link dfe-530tx+ nic. For the past week or so my computer keeps dropping my internet connection or not detection it at all. I can be surfing the internet or just starting the computer and bam, no connection. I have to restart the computer and it's back. Sometimes when I boot my computer and try to connect to the internet, I can't because there is no connection. I have tried going into winipcfg and releasing my settings and such but I can't seem to do so or even renew the adapter. It gives me a error 34 code that it can't renew the adapter. I have to restart the computer and it's back. Any ideas?

you may need a cable tech to come out and verify that they signal is strong enough. I've been experiencing your "dilemma" for just under 7 months now...except they have no solution for my problems.
What causes a short/weak signal:
Flourescent lights
Abnormal lengths of cable/slack
The more you've crimped the line with connectors, the more the line signal decreases (as in female/male connectors)
um...i dunno what else they told me, but it's in your best interest to have a tech come out. Also verify that you have a direct line to your modem (i.e. not splitting the line to a TV.)

I have (from the trunk line/line that comes in) the supplied splitter-filter, and from there, i have it running straight to my modem, and from the other end of the splitter, i run it to an amp and it powers about 10 TVs in our house.

Haven't had this problem in the last year and a half or so. My connection light on my cable modem stays on when my connection goes down indicating that I still have a connection but my computer doesn't think so. Whenever I have the cable techs come out, they tell me I have a very strong signal higher then what most people get. In the past I used to experience dns problems on their side and wouldn't be able to connect. Maybe I should just call them tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I was also wondering if it's just my adapter going bad. I might switch it out and see what happens. It's new and I don't think it would be the cause.

Have the same problem since last week... dunno what it is... sometimes all 3 computers can't go on... 2 are wireless one is wired... hmmm... dunno if its my router going bad... i'll go exchange it tomorrow. Hopefully that solves it... can't be a weak signal though.
