Help - Intel ICH8R or JMicron Drivers with Windoz Install ?

I'm setting up a C2D + Asus P5B-DLX system with Windoz XP Pro. Instead of the F6 key + floppy method, I plan on slipstreaming (w/ nlite) my Windoz install as my CD is only SP1. Despite reading bunches of threads here on AT and elsewhere, I'm confused as to which storage driver to use for my mobo though, ie. the Intel one or the JMicron one ? Read lots of horror stories about JMicron and Asus boards ...

Current plan : No RAID or AHCI at this time but I want to have that choice down the line.

(2) SATA hard drives
(1) IDE DVD burner

Install with Intel controller set to AHCI in BIOS and using Intel drivers. Have read that BIOS set to IDE during Windoz install will prevent switching between IDE and AHCI later on (unless you do fresh install).

Do I need to do anything for the JMicron controller ... BIOS settings, drivers ? Concern here is that DVD burner operates optimally ?

Man, things are complicated these days ..... 😕

I'd suggest creating a SP2 disc updated to Feb 2007 using the RyanVM updater/slipstreamer program.
(Updating from SP1 to SP2 is a separate operation).
After that, use nLite to slipstream in Intel Matrix & JMicron storage drivers.
Or: completely bypass the JMicron controller, by getting a SATA DVD drive; Newegg carries LiteOn and Samsung SATA DVD burners.
Newegg also has IDE to SATA adapters for about $12.
