Help installing XP Pro

I am installing XP Pro on my laptop - 6 gig hard drive. I had 98SE on it previously. The computer is telling me that I have one 6.1 gig partition that has [FAT32] indicated, and that I have 8 megs of unpartitioned space. Do I leave it like that and allow XP to be installed on the 6.1 gig partition?

That should be fine. I think there was always a bit of unused space on drives, just nowadays, it's being reported by the software. In other words, I wouldn't worry about it. 😉

When you do this, tell/click to have XP delete the previous installation/partition and use the maximum allowable space. Otherwise it will not install on the few MB's left on your drive. Actually it should tell you the same thing, that you cannot install unless you delete the previous partiton. Don't panic, just let XP do it's thing. If you can though and prior to this (we might be too late) you could have XP save your settings to a CDR or CDRW. That way your "custom settings" in 98 would be there in XP.
Good Luck, we've all been there.
