Ok Im helping my Uncle install XP pro Upgrade on a computer over the phone but am having troubles.
We added some more RAM (PC133 256MB) and a new 40GB WD hard drive to the system.
The computer sees the CD, boots off the CD, and starts loading windows. When it get to the screen where it says welcome to Win XP set up press enter to continue or R to run recovery console. He presses enter but then there is a blank screen. The words disappear and there is that while bar on the bottom of the screen but the next menu does not show up, we waited for 20 min. So after the 20 min he calls me back and I tell him to unplug the old 20GB drive that was in there thinking that it might be the problem(lots of viruses and spyware, plus it has WinME *shudder*). Tried it again same problem...The old 20GB needs to stay intact for the time, it?s my cousins computer and she wants to keep some of her MP3s she has. So we try rebooting and try it again 3 more times still a no go.
Any help would be great.
The system is a Dell Dimension L933R
CPU: P3 933Mhz
RAM: 128 unknown brand, upgraded to 384
OS: trying to upgrade to XP pro has WinME
Sound: onboard
Video: onboard
HDD: unknown 20GB, WD 40GB
The 256MB of RAM, 40GB WD drive and WinXP pro came off of Newegg. So it can be RMA if needed, my uncle though has now way of checking of the parts are bad though.
