i need a way to intall windows 2000 from the hard drive. My CDrom is shot so I can't boot from the cd. I also cannot boot into windows. It freezes during the logon screen. I was able to network to it and load the cd to the HD. Is there anyway to run an autoexec or something to make setup run from the HD? Please any help will be greatly appreciated.

You need to boot from a Win9x floppy and load SMARTDRV.EXE, then run WINNT.EXE, which is the setup.

Otherwise, boot from the 4 Win2K floppies, which will automatically start setup.

Ok i did that and all was well until time to restart. Once I did that it said operating system not found. That was with no floppy in the drive and all the installation files on the HD. That basically made the HD bootable, but somehow it's not being recognized. This is a really jacked up computer, but it's all I have a work. If no one responds to this post I'll try to change out the CDrom and boot with a bootable 2k cd.

win98se floppy...booted w/out cdrom support to install from the HD. the HD has 2 partitions one (drive C) is formatted and clean except for installation files, and the other (drive D) has a copy of the 2k CD. the win2k setup disk do not allow to install from the HD.

That's not a stupid ?....it's a very good ? I dont have the computer with me right now, but tomorrow i will make sure. That sounds like a logical answer. I didn't even think to check that. Thanks a lot for your common sense on the matter. Will post later if that didn't fix the prob.
