thx in advance for the help

You have to set the motherboard's boot-device priority so that after the first CD-ROM stage of Windows Setup, it tries to boot from the hard drive when it reboots, or from the hard drive's controller, depending on what motherboard you have. How about list your full specs in detail?

Also, if you're installing Win2000, you should take worm-prevention precautions unless you have a router to provide a perimeter firewall. Win2000, even with Service Pack 4, is vulnerable to worm attack with no human intervention if you plug your computer straight into a modem.

To prevent worm infection on Win2000, I would either grab a router (good idea regardless) or install free ZoneAlarm from ZoneLabs.com to provide a software firewall against worms and hackers. Or both. 🙂

hi,
my specs are p3 450
392mb ram
10gig hd>

no router/internet during install

even if its cdrom first and hd after
if i dont press space it will try to load off the hd

What brand and model of motherboard is it? If you're not sure, grab a flashlight and look at the motherboard for any markings that would reveal that (Asus P2B for example). Or look in your motherboard's BIOS menus for the boot-device priority, you would want CDROM,C,A in some types of BIOSes for example, so it looks to the CD-ROM, then to the hard drive if you didn't hit a key at the Press any key to boot from CD... prompt.

Basically, once you get your motherboard to try to boot from the hard drive, your Windows installation should begin the second phase and carry on. Keep at it! 🙂

nopez🙁

changed it to C:
it still says ntldr missing
clt alt del to restart!!

its hard to find the mobo name cuz it was like a 39.99 one 3 years back!and i didnt buy it🙁

before i did fixmbr/ fix boot

it did load to a boot manager asking m,e windows xp., 98 or whatever
but deleted that thing via fixmbr!!!

mabe i screwed something up🙁

What brand is that 10GB hard drive? Also while you're looking at its label, tell me if it has a jumper setting for Single Drive or not.

And the drive's data cable... it's plugged directly into one of the motherboard's surface-mounted IDE ports, not a PCI-slot IDE card, is that correct?

Any chance you could find some brand/model markings on that mobo? Then I could try to download the owner's manual, it sometimes helps make the :light: go on 😕

Gotta call it a night here, but I'll check in tomorrow :moon:
