Ok, after getting the rig up and running, my friend and I started to install Win2k. It won't work. It does through the first screen where it copies all the data to the HD, and after it needs a restart, it won't boot off the HD to complete the install.

The hard drive is fine, b/c we got Mandrake Linux working on it. Any ideas?

Ddo you have your hard drive connected to regular IDE channel or Promise100 IDE?
If it is Promise100, you will need to connect your hard drive to regular IDE first, install Windows2000, install drivers for Promise100 and only after that connect hard drive(s) to that Promise100 IDE. I hope that helps,

it's also possible to install win2k while your hard drive is plugged into the promise controller. right when win2k starts it's install off the cd, you need to hit a key (F3 maybe? it prompts you). it says "press key to install third party drivers." or something close to that. at that point you press the key and go through the ropes with putting in a floppy containing the win2k promise 100 drivers. after that, it should recognize the drive on the promise controller and install should continue.

Stupid question, but how do I know which one is the regular IDE channel and which is the promise 100? I am not really familiar with this board.

if you look at the board, with the CPU on top and the PCIs at the bottom of the mobo, the regular IDE conectors are the pair on top, and the Ultra100 (Promise) are the pair on the bottom.
