HELP! Installing Win2000

I'm currently on Win2K, but b/c of errors, I need to reinstall Win2k. I tried to reinstall while running Win2K and came up with errors, such as not detecting CD-ROM which halted installation. So I did it the old-fashion way and booted from the Win2K CD-ROM, but setup did not detect my HD. Now I'm stuck, and I need my computer soon to work on a project. Here's my configuration:

AMD Athlon TB 950 Mhz
Asus 7V w/ 1004C bios
768 MB RAM
IBM 30 GB primary master on ATA100 controller
Maxtor 40 GB secondary master on ATA100 controller
Bios Boot Sequence: Floppy, CD-ROM drive, ATA100 controller

I think the reason why setup is not detecting HD b/c the ATA100 controller boots after the CD-ROM drive, but I have to boot CD-ROM drive first to install from the CD.

Yes, its because of the promise controller.

Go to Asus's website and get the latest controller drivers. Put them on a floppy disk. Alternativly, you can copy them from the Asus driver CD. When you boot from the CD, Win2k will say once at the bottom (when it's initializing devices) to press F9 (I think its F9, its one of the F-keys for sure) to install a third party SCSI device driver. While the promise controller is an IDE controller, you still have to press F9 to install the driver. Once that's done, you can install Win2k on your drive.

Connect your ATA-100 harddrive to IDE connector first (it's the one next to CMOS battery). After you install Win2K, install the driver for ATA-100 Promise controller. Then poweroff, move your HD back to your Primary ATA-100 connector, and start it up.

Yeah, I just did what Glock30 said, but that was a hassle, because my case is very crowded.

I notice the press F6 instruction Mr. Bond was talking about while I was in the setup screen. If I could have read the posts earlier, I would have done that and would have probably save me more time.

Thanks a lot guys.

P.S. Does the Promise ATA100 slow down the boot up, because after I installed the drivers, I think it took a little longer to boot up?
