I'm building a new rig based on Asus AK8V Board & Athlon64 FX-53 (940). I'm done with the hardware aspect of this project. I'm left with installing Win XP Pro. only to discover that the motherboard is bent on recognizing parallel Drive but seems to ignore the SATAs I've installed.

I have installed two Western Digital Drives, 120G & 200G on the SATA1 & 2 Ports. I'm not interested in raids, just a simple two harddrive configuration.

My question is, is there anything one needs done in terms of activating the various chips, bios or whatever, before attempting to install winxp and the "F6 " routines.

Gone through the "F6" process for the umpteenth time, only to come to a prompting that says winxp is ready to be installed on the system, Press enter to continue. I press ENTER, and get the message, windows cannot detect any mass storage device on the system.

Tech Support didn't seem to know what they're doing, they tried intructing me to set it up as Raid instead, after they couldn't fix the problem.

I went to the Bios to try to disable the parallel drives setups and so forth but to no avail.

What annoys me is, it lists both SATA drives briefly during the initial boots, but that's it, it turns out and state, "

"Primary IDE master : not detected.
*Secondary IDE: Not detected

Will be glad if anyone could give some pointers as to what to do. especially someone with same Motherboard and a simple SATA setup.

Componet are.

ASUS SK8V.
1Gig Corsair Reg Mem.
PC Cooler 510 Delux PSU
ATI Radeon X800 Pro (AGP)
Plextor 712A Optical Drive

Thanx
