I tried to install my Lexmark Z65 in Vista, yet I get an error about Ntvdm. I get that sometimes with Vista, so I assumed it might fix itself if I set it in compatibility mode with XP, but it says access denied.

I'm not worried about the ntvdm thing. But I do want to figure out a way to install my printer.

I don't see Vista drivers for the Z65 available on the Lexmark web site so you're probably SOL until they write some. As is often the case, the current models will get drivers first, while those out of production will get hind t_t... My condolences on being a Lexmark ink jet owner...

I tried installing it by booting into XP, and it gives me some crazy error (where I can say close or ignore), and then it proceeds to do nothing.

There is a utility in XP that allows you to test the XP system files for their presence and integrity. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm fairly sure someone will post it for you. Maybe ask specifically for that in the OS section here.

Beyond that, you can download the latest driver for XP from the Lex site. Uninstall any current and attempted printer driver installs and try installing the latest. Follow their instructions exactly - often drivers for USB devices have to be installed before the device is ever hooked up. And make sure your USB drivers are up to date - requires at least XP SP1 and if there are any updates for your mobo chipset USB drivers be sure to do that too before reattempting the Lex driver install. Check both the mobo mfr's site and the chipset mfr's site for USB drivers as often the mobo sites are a few generations behind.
