Help Installing New HD

I'm trying to install a new HD (60 GB IBM 60GXP). I can get the bios to recognize that a new drive is attached, and it reports the correct size. However, neither Windows nor Dos can access the drive. What have I done wrong?

Additional info: I'm using Win 98. I've tried it as master, slave, and cable select. I've tried it with and without the other drive. I've tried it at the middle and at the end of the new IDE cable.

Have you formatted and partitioned it?

When I tried to format it I get an error that the drive doesn't exist.

You have to partition the drive before you can format it...

You first have to use the FDISK command to set up partitions

Then format command to format it.
