Help installing memory

So my new Asus A8N-E has 4 DIMM sockets, alternating between blue and black...should I put the memory sticks in the blue sockets or should I put one in one blue and one black so they are next to each other?

does the manual say anything about it, i have an asus p5gdc-v deluxe and blue and yellow slots, one for ddr and the other for ddr2

It just comes with this crappy little quick start manual which doesn't mention anything at all.

qbackin, I know...only 335 posts...but I have been around for 6 years. Perhaps if you think this is a really easy question you can help me answer it? I feel kind of silly asking how to install RAM.

Normally motherboards have the two slots next to each other so you will have two of one color and two of another, so it's really obvious where to put the memory. Such is not the case here.

hm I'd probably try both configuration and check the POST info to see if any have "Memory running in dual channel" message

Nevermind I mistakenly put the full manual under a pile of other stuff. How embarrassing. Yes it's the same color slots, not the ones next to each other.

Yeah, for dual channel it is almost always the slots that are not next to each other. I know thats how it is on the IC7-G and the NF7-S v2, its so that you can get (somewhat) better cooling of the RAM.

Most boards use same color for dual channel, in alternating slots. One modern nForce 4 exception, are MSI boards such as the K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI. In that board you must have the two memory modules next to each other in different colors for dual channel. Odd eh? I think even the manual for the MSI says otherwise. 😛

on the a8v deluxe, it is the blue slots closest to the socket.

EDIT: yeah, i checked, its the blue.
