Help installing Linux on a WinXP partition to dual-boot

Hi guys!

I'm looking to install Linux (not sure which one yet) on an existing WinXP drive.

The PC in question is a laptop, and I do not have a CD drive for it.

I have use of networks drives, so running setup or transferring files over will not be a problem.

Ultimately I'd like to either put the install files on the drive, run the install, and at re-boot, be looking at a choice of OSs.

Or,

Run the install from a network drive, and be prompted at bootup with the 2 choices.

So, I ask the Anand Linux community if such a Linux Package exists? If so, what is it?

Please keep in mind that I do not have a CD/Optical drive or a floppy for this. I do have a memory stick slot on the lappy, and a 512MB MS stick that I can put stuff on (that was how I installed the drivers for a network card).

Thanks in advance all🙂

Wow, you're up a river without a paddle and even then have your arms missing. I'm not sure if this can work, but try searching on how to boot off of network drives. Once that is done, everything else should be the same as if the drive was connected to your laptop in the first place. Go find some arms, buy a portable paddle next time you in the hardware store.

If your drive is NTFS you might be out of luck. Linux should really have its own partitions. Netbooting is pretty simple and effective.

Thanks for the replies guys🙂

Any other offers of assistance?

C'mon Anand Operating Systems peeps....don't make me Google this:roll:

OK,

Let me ask this question:

What would be the difficulty installing Linux over the network (Networked Optical drive) on the existing WinXP drive, and when it boots up having a boot menu of OS choices?

Thanks

It shouldn't be hard if you have adequate free space on your hard drive. If the drive is all NTFS, you'll have to change that.
