Help! Installing HSF

Hi, I'm trying to install a big typhoon onto my asrock 939dual-sata mb. Has anyone done this? The instructions aren't very clear. If someone can give me a walkthrough or a link, that would be awesome. I'm not clear if i need to remove the heatsink retention plate, or if I need to buy a backplate..thanks.

You'll probably need k8 cpu backpalte, there isn't one with the ASRock.

The inevitable retention module/screws etc will need a backplate to screw into.

I just counted them. There are 11 reviews of this HS stickied at the top of this page.
Several of them have to detail installation. Take a look. 😉

yes, I did. But none of them are specific for a ASRock 939DualSATA. As said above I have a retention plate and no backplate, but my thermaltake comes with two H brackets, so are these to be used as backplates? I have two H brackets and a sponge thingy.

It took me a while to figure out how to install the big typhoon on my asrock dual as well. You have to remove the clips that come with asrock and use the backplate and 4 long screws that came with the typhoon. Its a pain to get the nuts on the screws because of the size of the typhoon. I would reccommend returning it for a more compatible heatsink. If i could go back, thats what i would do.

I agree with itsrunninghot, the instructions suck for installing with this board and it also does not come with a backplate. Both Instructions discuss mobos with eiter a plastic or metal backplate. I ended up using the H bracket on the back of the Asrock board along with the foam and plastic piece as instructed on the front of the instructions for some other cpu. I would def use the foam H thingy because I didnt like the idea of tightening a metal H bracket down to some transistors on the back without any cushion support. Anyways do this and be sure to put it all togehter before mounting your mobo in its case. I didnt do this and it was a pain to tighted the Heatsink down once mounted.
