I'm beginning to build my new system and I'm having a bit of a problem with the heatsink, an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. I've already installed the Opteron 144 into the mobo, have watched the video from AMD showing you how to install the CPU/HSF, and have read the 64 Pro instructions several times. It looks easy to install the standard HSF that comes w/ the CPU, but this heatsink is a totally different beast and I'm stuck. Can anyone show me a good guide to installing this heatsink or offer advice from a first-hand experience?

What exactly are you having problems with?

BTW, I'm not sure how well that 450W will handle the X1900XT, even though it's FSP.

The X1900XT requirements are 450W & 30 amps on 12V rail, I have both of those so it should work. If it works on your SmartPower 500W (SP = budget PSU) then it will work on a good 450W PSU, I think.

And basicly I'm trying to figure out how to mount the HSF. I know I'm supposed to position it so that the fan points to the back of the case, but I have no idea what to do otherwise.

You have to remove the retention bracket from the heatsink itself and turn it so, when mounted, it faces to the rear of the case. Just take off the screws, spin it, and then put them back. I had to do that when I installed it on my ASUS mobo.

Hrm, I didn't do that with my A8N-SLI board. I just simply installed it like the stock HSF. Did I do something wrong? It seems to secured fine.

That's just on some boards Flash. I had to turn the bracket on my A8N5X or it would have been pointing down. You didn't do anything wrong if it was already lined up with the retention bracket.
