I just purchased a D-Link DWL-520 rev. E1 from newegg. I'm attempting to use it with a Linksys router. Turned off my computer to install it, then noticed in the instruction manual "!Caution: install the drivers from the cd before installing the network pci card." I wasnt in the mood to turn on my computer again, so instead, I just installed the card, turned on the comp, and when Win XP detected new hardware, I pointed it to the drivers on the CD. Well, it didn't work, then it worked out of nowhere for about 15 minutes. Once I tried accessing a secure webpage, I lost my connection and it hasn't returned since. I can get assigned a dynamic IP address, but getting connected is futile. I can't even connect to my Linksys router.

What I've tried so far:
- Uninstalled the software, removed the hardware, turned on the computer to reinstall the software, turned off the computer to install hardware...turned it on and no connection.
- " " " " in safe mode. no connection.
- " " " " went into device manager, attempted to delete certain hardware profiles, reinstall software, reinstall hardware. no connection!!!!!!

I'm about to give up, someone help please.

i would say install it like you did the first time. and select roll back drivers to the point where the device wont work. then install the software.
Also, try setting up the card as per the instructions on another pc, to see if its not a bad card, or you missed a configuration setting somewhere.

Make sure the adapter is "homing" onto the signal given out by your wireless router instead of another adpater. Wireless LAN isn't plug and play, you have to setup alot of stuff on the router and the computer.

I did the same with that card in my computer, I eventually just went into device manager, disabled the card installed the software, reboot and enabled the card and then it worked fine!
