Long story, but going from X800 pto from a 9800 pro and the ATI control panel driver setup doesn't finish, it gives an error box about "Severe (yes, that is the spelling): unable to bla bla". When trying to manually change drivers from the device manager to the ones on the CD I get a access denied message. I can't seem to get these drivers installed! I even booted to safe mode and used driver clearner.

Any hints?

I just screwed up an install and found that I had to boot to safe mode, ran driver cleaner. It said it deleted all, but ran it a second time and one file showed again. I uninstalled it manually from system32. Things still weren't right as I could only install cp not ccc. Realized ATI tool was on the drive. Uninstalled ati tool, than uninstall netframe and install version 2.0 beta. All worked great after that. Have had this card for 18 months, first such problem. Not sure what I did to create such a mess (I did recently try to run a borked nvidia card). Anyways hope some this helps.

I cleaned it again and tried again, same thing.

Here is the complerte error:

"Severe: Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adaptor with standard VGA driver before running setup."

This comes at the end of the driver install, before the control center in the catalyst install. It is listed as "VGA Controller" and "VGA controller (VGA compatible)" in device manager.

At one point I had the drivers installed fine, but when you tried to go into the control panel the machine rebooted, so I uninstalled everything and started fresh, now I cannot get that far.

I put the 9800 pro back in after driver cleaner and the same error pops up. It seems I hosed my Windows and I can't seem to un-hose it.

Guess you have tried system restore? Problem is often when you hose windows you can waste hours trying to fix it.

I fixed it!

This issue affects the following system configurations:

Some users have reported that when trying to install the ATI Software, the following error message will appear:

"The Parameter is incorrect"

Not all systems are affected.

Allowing Full Control to the ATI Technologies registry key has been shown to address this symptom. To enable Full Control, perform the following steps:
