Help! "Input not supported" bouncing around my monitor!

I recently upgraded my PC (installing an Intel i5-4670k Haswell CPU, ASUS Z87-A motherboard, Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 GPU, 8 gigs of G.skill Sniper Series DDR3 RAM, and Windows 7 64 bit) and it seemed to be working well as I was setting up my computer. After a day of the computer working fine, I decided to upgrade my NVIDIA graphics drivers to the newest version (320.49, upgraded from the drivers that were on the disk that came with my card.)

As soon as I installed these drivers, my screen went black with a gray box saying "Input Not Supported" bouncing around the screen. When I went to force shut down and reboot, the same message came up just as the Windows login was about to appear. I promptly went into safe mode and uninstalled the drivers and rebooted.

After rebooting, drivers would be automatically detected and installed. These default drivers also caused the same "Input Not Supported" message to come up when I rebooted. I ended up putting my old graphics card in (NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX) and installed 314.14 drivers and I am able to reboot the computer without getting that error, but none of my games work. I tried loading League of Legends and when I hit play, it seemed to be loading but it would just stop and close without putting up any messages. I had also tried starting Star Wars: The Old Republic, but that instantly caused the "Input Not Supported" error. I have also seen posts about enabling VGA in CMOS, but the UEFI BIOS is really confusing to me and I believe that option no longer exists. I have done all kinds of different driver tweaks, none of which worked until I switched to my old GPU, but the problem still looms.

Another issue I have run into is when I try to load a game like Batman: Arkham City on Steam, it starts to load and then stops responding. Unfortunately, it didn't say "this program is not responding. Terminate or Continue." In order to close it, I tried CTRL-ALT-DEL. About 45 seconds after hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL, the screen went black. I could still see my mount, but the screen was black and not doing anything. It was almost as if the computer was off, but I could still see the mouse.

This is unbearable. I just upgraded my computer so I could game properly on it, but I am unable to play any games whatsoever. Please help! Thank you for your time.

are you using hdmi input on your monitor? the drivers probably defaulted to a resolution less than what that input supports, had this happen to me and had to hookup an analog cable to get my monitor set right. I was using a DVI > HDMI cable plugging in the dvi end into my hd4870x2

also, have you installed the drivers for your monitor? it shouldn't make a difference but it might.

I uninstalled and re-installed different drivers several times. Each time I did, I used Driver Sweeper as well as CCleaner. I also alternated between the two. I tried uninstalling drivers at least 10 or 15 times.

Did you remove the folder the installer put on your hard drive?

My monitor (Acer X223w) has two different inputs: VGA and DVI-D. Mine is plugged into the VGA slot. I am not sure if that is the answer you were looking for or not. Please tell me if my response was not the answer to your question. Also, when I looked up monitor drivers, the only available OS for them was Windows Vista 32-bit. I am running Win 7 64-bit.

I deleted the folder almost every time. Other times, I tried to just uninstall and leave it there. I only did that to try something different. Sometimes I lose creativity when I have sunk an entire day into trying to fix computer issues.

Ok, I would also look in Windows updates and see if there is a driver hiding in there.

I see a graphic driver in Windows Update that want to be installed, but it says "some updates were not installed."
I am not sure if this has to do with my problem, though, because I had the same "Input Not Supported" issue on my new graphics card.

If you have a DVI cord...use it. If you don't, make sure you have the adapter hooked into the DVI-I slot on the back of the 650....not the DVI-D.

DVI-I has both digital and analog. DVI-D only has digital. If you have it in the DVI-D...it is only sending a digital signal and your monitor won't pick it up on the VGA slot.

That should fix your issue.

So far, it seems to be working, but all I did was change the VGA to DVI-I adapter to the one that came with the new GPU. I am not sure if that was the fix or if it was something else, but you will see me on here soon enough if it messes up again. Should I still buy a DVI-D to DVI-D monitor cable to replace the VGA cable?

Absolutely. There is no point whatsoever to using a VGA cable on a digital monitor. Especially if your monitor has DVI input and your video card supports digital output (which they all do now).

The DVI cable will work on both ports of the 650, but only the DVI-I output on the back of the 650 sends out both a DVI and Analog signal. The adapter for the VGA cable you are using will fit on both, but only the DVI-I has the extra pins for the analog signal to send to the VGA port on the monitor. If you had the cable connected to the DVI-D (DVI only port)...then you were sending a DVI signal to a VGA port which will not work.

Yeah, I noticed the adapter didn't even fit in the DVI-D port. This was, of course, before I realized that the GeForce GTX 650 box specifically says NOT to use the adapter on the DVI-D port. Thank you so much for your help. I will get a DVI-D port as soon as possible.
