Help! Incoming calls LOCK-UP computer

Like the title says - when my phone rings, the PC freezes. Any ideas?

I had the line split and running into both the phone and the modem, but then tried running the split portion through a surge protector first. It still freezes (when I am not even using it, when I am playing games, etc.)

That's interesting...What you might consider doing, instead of splitting your line, is to use your modem as a coupler. Most any modem has two plugs: line and phone. The line coming from the wall goes into the line plug, and the line running to your phone obviously goes to the phone plug. Similarly, even if you don't do that, make sure that the line from the wall is plugged into your 'line' plug. I bet that it's not, and the modem gets confused by having the 'ringing' data coming into its phone port and not having anywhere to go with it.
