Hi, I am new user here and I have a question about Windows XP. This question pertains to a friend's computer because he didn't feel like going through the trouble of registering with XP ( I know must of you will think im just covering up because im too embarassed to ask the question for myself). But anyway, his computer is running Windows XP Pro on an AMD K6-2 Processor 500mhz with 320 MB RAM. His computer will just do what we like to call a "spontaneous restart" where out of the blue the computer just restarts for no reason, no error messages, nothing at least once a day. I can't think of anything that would be causing his problem, that's why I came to you guys for some help. Any thoughts?????Thanks!

I am with creed on this one. I would check the power supply.

I had a friend with same symptoms. He had a K6 in a 386 case that he kept upgrading. Took the power supply out and opened it up and blew several years of dust out of it. Problem cured, in our case anyhow.

Go to System Properties / Advanced / Startup & Recovery. In the middle of the page, there is a check-box that says "Automatically Restart". Unselect this, and then the next time you have a system failure it will give you a very informative BSOD instead of just rebooting. Read the information on the BSOD very carefully, as, unlike earlier versions, it actually contains useful information as to what has failed.

Check your cpu temperature. Might be running too hot.
