UPDATE:

Well, my aunt has now had 2 surgeries to remove 3 separate clots in her brain. The first one went beautifully, but the second didn't go as well. She suffered a minor stroke, which seems to have affected her memory. She is remembering more and more, so it does seem like she will have a full recovery. She is back at home now, but she did have to have a stint put in her brain. (Not really sure what that means, though.) All-in-all, things are looking good though. She does have one more clot, but this one is in her aeorta in her stomach. I thought the aeorta was in the heart, but apparently that's just the valve for it. Anyway, that one is not one that they feel needs to be operated on yet, so they are letting her recover more and just monitoring it.

UPDATE:

I just found out the my aunt qualified for 100% insurance coverage for her surgeries. SHE IS Scheduled to undergo some kind of coil surgery on her brain on Thursday, June 29th. A huge, heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who offered well-wishes and even donations to her. I guess I won't need to set up any funding donation for her after all, but please keep her in your prayers. :)

--------------------

Hi all. I rarely visit the OT forums, I'm mostly in the FS/T forums, but I didn't think it would be appropriate to post this there.

I just found out from my Mom that her twin sister (my Aunt Sally) is in need of another surgery. She has already had several to correct resprictions in her arteries in her neck and chest, and now they have discovered a blood clot in her brain. She has no insurance, so her medical bills are already through the roof, and they are going today and tomorrow to talk to 2 different neurosurgeons about her operation options.

Anyway, until I get more information, I just wanted to find out where/how is a good place to start in setting up a donation fund to help her cover some of these expenses? My mom said that the doctors said that it would be a minimum of $85,000 up front for the surgery, and none of us even had $8,500, much less $85,000. My mom posted up flyers in her hometown (Mayer, AZ near Prescott) and set up a donation fund locally for her, but I wanted to try to help out in a broader spectrum, since I am the computer junkie of the family. I figured I can maybe use my PayPal account, and transfer from there to the bank that she set up in Mayer. But I have no idea how to get started and where to begin.

So I turn to you all, my fellow AnandTechers. I know that this is the best community in the world. I have seen it over and over. Thanks to everyone in advance for helping me to start this up. Any bumps and ANY help at all are VERY appreciated from the bottom of my and my family's heart.

I bet if you talk to the mods they might let you post a topic asking for donation. Or you can try to see if you can trade your time doing something for donations. For example I have seen on other boards people offering to make sigs(Graphics) for other for donation, or people have been raffling off items. A raffle if allowed can bring you in alot donation.

I would thnk, that depending on her income, etc, that she might be able to get the medical help thru some social services, medicare or??? There has to be some provision out there for people in dire need who have no insurance.

there was a reason why it was locked, not having to do with the child or the diabetes

Yes, I know that there are tons of scammers out there. I haven't told my Mom or my aunt that I am turning to my online community for help. I know that my Mom has set up an account in her home town for donations and is sending out flyers. I would be happy to get any proof that would help ease everyone's mind. But currently I am not asking for donations, because I don't know what to do with them. I just want to know how to go about setting things up for it. Anyone who wants to donate could contact me and I will be glad to provide more information as I get it. Until then, all I ask is for some guidance and as many prayers as I can get for her. :)

Don't use Paypal if you are planning on getting any significant funding on the internet. They'll most likely freeze your account if they see lots of money going into it.

I will pray for your Aunt but don't expect miracles from this crowd. They are heartless for the most part. :(
