Help in finding a chess program that ...

I am looking for a version of Chess for PC thats widely popular. I have a 6yr old and would like to use a program that will allow me to load arrangements like "mate-in-one" ... so he can practice the strategy without having to go through entire games .. at least for now.

Basically the program I am envisioning would allow loading of ascii text files that have the current position of the pieces.

This should be a popular program with lots of board setups available so I can choose them by level of complexity.

Any help appreciated.

You can get an old version of Fritz (like Fritz 7) for around $20. This program allows you to set up positions. The newest version of Fritz (Fritz 9) is $50. Fritz also gives you a nice online playing server and a multitude of other training features that your child could use as he/she gets older.
