Since the new card is Pci express 3.0 is it backwards comptiable?

Should be fine, 270 is a pretty light card on power.

Should be fine . . . but you might want to pop the side panel off and check the amperage on it before you order the card. I don't have the highest confidence that Gateway would have used a quality 450W PSU in that tower.

Does your PSU list the +12V amps?
