I use Cox Broadband here in Metro DC. Use their Scientific Atlantic cable modem with my Belkin pre 802.11 n wireless router. Laptop and 2 desktops OK BUT here is the rub- Never could get the promised 15Mbps downloads on my desktop or m y laptop but my wife's cheap e Machines mostly get the promised speed.

Talked to the local computer shop- They said over a period of time that Windows XP gets corrupted with new programs you add that load stuff into startup files, like Adobe Download Manager, Symantec Utilities like Go Back, porn sites, free music sites, warez (which I never go to), etc. Registry gets screwed up big time.

So, I had them reformat and reload Windows. They cleaned crap out, gave me a simple Anti Virus Program and of course Firefox. When I re loaded mandator programs like an Epson printer driver, HP Scanner, External Hard Drive, I always selected the Custom install and put the program Icon on the Desktop only, not into startup or the system tray.

Damn, and if it did not work. So, your problem may be Windows XP andor a registry problem to boot.
