Hi folks,

I'm about to get a LCD TFT mon for my friend and below are the locally available 15" models:

- Hyundai (no model given)
- Samsung 151S
- Samsung 152S
- Samsung 152T
- Sharp LL-T15G1
- Sony SDM-S51

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I've seen the Samsung 152T in action and it's the best 15 inch LCD monitor I've seen - even on analog. It's very bright and the contrast ratio is very easy on the eyes.

I've also seen the Samsung 151S, and it's very good as well, but the 152T is definitely worth the extra money.

Good luck.

Woah, the 152T is REALLY expensive. Even more than the Sony counterpart. Which is the better one between 151S and Sony SDM-S51? Any ideas?

Definitely get the 152T. I just got a 172T after much thought and consideration, and I strongly believe that I got the best LCD money (in my price range) could buy. I'm no gamer, so I can't vouch for its pixel response (which seems more than adequate for me), but I'd have to artificially induce streaking and really look for it to find it.

Get the T because it has a DVI input. I don't know about other LCD manufacturers, but they definitely make a difference on the Samsung displays, the picture WILL BE NOTICABLY SHARPER! However, if you do not have a DVI input, nor do you care to have one, pick the S, which should be about the same display without the digital input.

One more thing, you can hook two computers to the T, one digital and the other analog, the S has one input.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll just go for the 152S in that case. Don't think my friend needs the DVI input. BTW, what's streaking? Heard of it a lot but not sure what it is exactly.

- Hyundai (no model given) - probably low-end stuff
- Samsung 151S - very old model, forget about it.
- Samsung 152S - new model, nice.
- Samsung 152T - Samsung's top 15" model, what can you say?
- Sharp LL-T15G1 - bad, no warranty on backlight.
- Sony SDM-S51 - very old model, forget about it.

Just went to the computer stalls. Grr... They don't have the darn 152S in stock right now and they're trying to push some low end Philips model to me. REAL irritating. BTW, anyone knows the warranty Samsung has? E.g. how many years and how many dead pixels till I can claim warranty?

Normally you only can claim warranty if you find more than 5-6 dead pixels on 15", higher tolerance number on larger size.
Sharp uses %.
Manufacturer won't give you a new replacement if you find 1 dead pixel on your newly bought LCD mon.
Some resellers/retailers will. (e.g. Dell.) If you want such guarantee, buy from such resellers/retailers.

Philips' low-end 150S3 is not bad, slim bezel, as slim as Samsung 152T/B. (Samsung's new 151N has ultra slim bezel like Eizo L367.)
Just few bucks more mid-end 150B3 is better, another few bucks more high-end 150P3 is quite good, much cheaper than Samsung's 152T.
The weak point of Philips' is the LG/Philips TN+ panel, 40ms - old technology.

I believe samsung LCDs (15") need 8 or more dead pixels before they do anything. my 151P came and works flawlessly.
