Help improving my Wireless (WAP? Bridge? Extender?)

I'm in need of improving the wireless connectivity in my apartment. I live in a two family house, with the upstairs being the landlord. The wireless router is located on the first floor on the far end of the house, with my desktop being in the basement on the complete opposite end of the house. I get a poor, unreliable signal being about 100ft away from the router. Currently I'm using a USB Wireless receiver that does the job, but sometimes locks up my USB ports causing instability. So, I'm looking to find a way to use the ethernet to get my internet, rather than via the USB.

So, I've been reading about Range extenders, WAPs, and Bridges, but not sure what I really need. I don't have access to the router upstairs, but I have the SSID and password. Is there a way that I set up a wireless access point/bridge/extender (whatever) at the far end of my apartment nearest the router, and then run a 100ft strand of ethernet to my desktop?

Thanks for any suggestions!!

Yes, you can setup a bridge on the other end of the house and run a cable from the bridge to your PC.

Options:

1. Buy a wireless bridge. If it has one port, and one port is all you need, then you're all set. If you need additional ports, then you can plug a switch into the wireless bridge.

2. DDWRT/Tomato compatible router. configure as a Client Bridge. Comes with 4 LAN ports.

3. Ask the Landlord to drop a cable into the basement from the router on the first floor. run the cable to the PC (this is what I recommend)
