Help Improve Google Voice (Win a Chromecast):

Got the email and filled it out. The only real gripe I have is the continued need to of the voice app for native dialer support.

That is semi frustrating. However, you can use hangout dialer. Hangout dialer used to be kind of "meh" but now that once you install it, it integrates into hangouts, it is much nicer. Why you need to install it separately, I have no idea since it integrates /w hangouts anyways.
 
You're both talking about two different things which is one of the issues with G-Voice. It's kinda all over the place....

The G-Voice App will let you mask your G-Voice number when dialing out on your Cell line.

The Hangouts Dialer will let you make VOIP calls. Receive if you turn it on in the Settings. 😉 It would also be nice if the Hangouts Dialer could integrate into the Android Dialer like GrooveIP could.

Heck you can make 3 way calls in the Desktop version of Hangouts. Guess how you do this? You think it's in the Desktop Hangouts app? Nope....

You have to goto Google Plus. Click on the Hangouts Icon then click start video Hangout! Then you can select add Telephone.... Hopefully this gets added to the Desktop and Mobile app....

Google Voice and Hangouts has a lot of cool features and ideas.... It's just kind of a mess....

Depending on what I need to do with Google Voice on my phone I might need to switch between Hangouts, Google Voice App or the Desktop version of the Google Voice site....

The Google Voice site should be retooled to work hand in hand with the Hangouts chat app. It's easier to find messages and voicemails on the G-Voice site and access settings but it needs a UI overhaul too.

According to some of the higher ups who are in contact with Google Voice engineers. This is only for them to figure out which features to migrate into Google Hangouts. At least from what I've heard.

They realize there is a good amount of people that rely on Google Voice like Obihai users for Landline, small business people and so forth....

My only 3 major complaints:
1.) Must have the now mostly useless Google Voice app installed to maintain native dialer support(which automatically allows you to use your Google Voice number for all outgoing calls)

2.) I seem to be getting slightly more spam calls than usual...Slightly more noticeable compared prior to the Google Voice/Hangouts integration.

3.) The "Block" or "Mark as spam" feature is very hard to find in Hangouts. In Google Voice app, it there when you long press on "Inbox", "Incoming", or whatever category you have. No such feature in Hangouts it seems...I know I did it once or twice before in Hangouts because I do have 1 number blocked in the Hangouts app, but I don't remember how I did it.

Things to keep in mind for blocking someone in Hangouts
If you're in a one-on-one Hangout, you'll no longer be able to send or receive messages from the person.
If you're in a group Hangout, you'll receive a notification that someone you've blocked is also in the Hangout and if you choose to open the Hangout you'll be able to see the person's messages.
If you're in a one-on-one Hangout, your Hangout will be archived.
The person won't be able to join any future video calls with you.
If you use Hangouts to receive calls and voicemails for your Google Voice account, you need to block a phone number in Google Voice to prevent that person from contacting you.

Moreover, I don't think they're going to EOL it as they're rolling out their own prepaid service. Surely GV/Hangouts will be integrated with that service.

Project Fi is still beta.

Google Voice users who try Project Fi are asked to migrate there G-Voice number over. This has upset G-Voice users. Especially ones who also use an Obihai device for their landline as well.

Again since it's still beta I'm sure they will change things around.

I'd think Project Fi is using G-Voice as a backbone.

I personally am not interested in Fi until they allow G-Voice users to keep their numbers at Google Voice. Kinda the reason G-Voice users like the service. One number to use anywhere.
