HELP: I'm obsessive about organizing but naturally resist doing it

ok this has caused agony for me my entire life: I have an obsessive need to organize EVERYTHING, yet I'm naturally completely disorganized. whenever I try to organize things, things just get more disorganized, and everything I do is out of whack.
help!
is there anything I can do?
maybe I'm just not organizing things in the right way?

I know exactly how you feel. I have been "diagnosed" with OCD, yet only if you live with me will you see it. I am disorganized yet I try to organize many things to a fine detail.

I have paper strun(sp.) around my room. I know where everything is but someone walking in my room would think it was a battlefield or something.

Its like wanting everything to be organized, but psychologically trying to keep myself disorganized to feel normal.

My mom thinks I procrasinate, but I'll tell you about that later...

I usually have to have a gun cocked and pointed at my head for me to get going.

OCD Screening Test

Hopefully you don't need this, but you did say that your need to be organized has caused you agony...

I was in a hospital today. I walked by an oncology office and the thought of cancer patients being on the other side of that wall was pretty agonizing. I'm always thinking I'm gonna get cancer

I obsessively need to masturbate every 14 minutes, but every time i touch my winky I get sick and have to run to the bathroom to vomit. By the time I get back to my room and want to touch myself again I'm already sick and I have to run back to the bathroom. Can somebody help me?

according to the screening test:
"
You scored 7 out of 20 in Part A.
(0 indicates no OCD tendencies, while 20 indicates maximum OCD tendencies.)

You scored 12 out of 20 in Part B.
(0 indicates no OCD tendencies, while 20 indicates maximum OCD tendencies.)

Based on the above results, it appears you may have OCD or a related disorder. However, only a qualified mental health provider can make a more accurate diagnosis.

OMG.. I am absolutely 100% certain that my mom had (not sure about now) OCD. She would walk through a doorway multiple times and it would frustrate the hell out of me - sometimes she'd go in the exit because it 'felt better.' She would have to touch a toy I was playing with or other object sometimes holding it for a frustratingly long time. (This was while I was growing up.)

She seems fairly normal now, though. Sometimes I wonder if I'm crazy for thinking she's normal, though. 😕

more ideas?

I'd see a counselor or someone about it, especially if other things cause you the same "agony" that your need to be organized does. Who knows if you're obsessive compulsive or not, but it's common for people to have OCD and not even realize it.
