When he got to the ICU they said he was about an hour from slipping into a coma he had a doctors appointment for the next day, but when we found him that morning he wasn't thinking clearly, he kept talking about going out to dinner (it was 8AM) at that point we realized he didn't know what was really going on and we took him to the emergency room.

He was dam lucky you guys were around:thumbsup:

If you're always thirsty, drinking alot, pissing very frequently, and have lots a lot of weight over the past couple of days then it sounds like diabetes. Type2 (adult onset) most likely. It happened to me 4 years ago. I control my blood sugar now with medication, diet and "infrequent" exercise.

I never realy had any heath problem till last March(6ft 180lbs).... felt like I was walking in 3ft of snow all day long, pissed a lot(foamy), very dry mouth, loss of 20lbs in two weeks and vision going. Went to the Dr and found out I'm type 1 and my blood surgar was 420:eek:

"Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. If your blood sugar level tops 600 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 33 millimoles per liter (mmol/L), the condition is known as diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. When your blood sugar gets this high, your blood becomes thick and syrupy. The excess sugar passes from your blood into your urine, which triggers a filtering process that draws tremendous amounts of fluid from your body. Left untreated, diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome can cause life-threatening dehydration and coma. Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome is most common in middle-aged and older adults who have type 2 diabetes."

Your friend is lucky as hell.... I think 600+ is coma territory.

I was chastised by my doctor for not having gone to the ER when I was diagnosed. My sugar level was 700+. It was a pretty bad time.

Sounds like you're in need of some salt/zinc. Get you some Pedialyte, Gatorade is sugar loaded crap.

Just make your own sports drink so you can control how much sugar is in it.

People have suggested the possibility of diabetes. With so many people having diabetes, surely you have a friend or relative with a blood glucose monitor.

Man at 420 if I was walking down a hallway and people were 20 yards away they were blury and I always had better than 20/20 vision before this... Everything is back to normal now I just have to use +1 reading glasses.

DM type 1 has an incredibly insidious onset. People used to just die from it. You're fine one day, feeling sick the next, then you develop diabetic ketoacidosis and you're dead.

@OP

How long have you had the bronchitis? Was that a diagnosis from a health care provider?

Any wheezing?
Shortness of breath on exertion?
Is your temperature high?
Is your heart beating much faster than normal?
Are you finding it difficult to breathe?
Do you have any respiratory condition? COPD, asthma, etc.
Have you lost any weight? Do you happen to have a daily weight log over the course of your sickness?
Are you drinking 2-3L of fluid a day?
Are you sweating?
Any vomiting or diarrhea?
Do you have any swelling anywhere? Feet? Stomach?
Do you have any cardiovascular history? Heart Failure, bypasses, etc.
Have you taken any diuretics?
Pinch the skin on the back of your hand--does it lay back down instantly or does it take a little while?
Do you get dizzy when standing up?
What color is your urine?

P.S. I'm not a doctor, make sure you make it to your appointment tomorrow.
