Somehow surferbar has managed to get into my browser. I have popups shootin out all over the place and I cant get rid of it.
I've ran ad-aware and a couple other spware scanners, but no luck. Does anyone know how to get rid of this thing? Im using winxp professional

There is a specific tip out there to disable some hijacking software. Google for it and you will find or go to- http//www.komando.com -and search on- hijacked -a link to one of her tips should pop up. Also use adaware AND spybot with their latest def files. One specific tool is called HijackThis and another is called Browser Hijack Blaster.

Hey red,
. Thanks for the tip on CWSShredder. I hadn't run across a need for it yet, but if I do, now I'm prepared.

ran adaware and spybot with latest ref files, but they did not help. I was able to find something on google and deleted all of the reg entries i could find. It is gone now as far as I can tell, but I am not sure if there are any remants left. Hopefully adaware of spybot will have a fix for this soon.

Likely you will need to keep some special anti-hijacking tools on hand, if you're going to continue using IE, like those mentioned in the last 3 or 4 posts here as the main focus of adaware and spybot aren't on the hijack side of things.
. You especially want to have HijackThis and CWS Shredder in your toolkit. And be more skeptical about what you see around the web and always check out stuff you DL in the fora and newsgroups before intalling it. It's not all that easy to get yourself hijacked. After all, the simple expedient of running Netscape, Opera or Mozilla for your browser and email would eliminate your exposure to about 90% of the nasties floating around out there.
