I have an HP Compaq Presario 2596 laptop with a 2589MHz Intel Celeron Processor (.18u). I bought it in 2004. The problem I'm having is in identifying just which Celeron is in my computer. I know it's not from the Tualatin family or anything prior (Coppermine, Mendocino, etc.) because nothing from those offerings are anywhere near as fast as my processor is. I don't believe it is from the Pentium M family (Celeron M [Banias-512, Dothan 1024, and Shelton processors]) because when I check my "System" settings from the Control Panel it says it is a Celeron, no more and no less. Windows Game Advisor says the same thing. I believe it is from the NetBurst family, but beyond that I am clueless. I've counted out Celeron D (Prescott-256, Prescott-V, and Cedar Mill-512) and Celeron Yonah-1024 because if it is a Celeron D it would say so in "System" and Game Advisor. Plus, I think my laptop is a little old to be equipped with a Celeron D from the factory. I can't with confidence say that it is a Willamette-128, Northwood-128, or Northwood-256 because I can't tell the difference. My best guess is that it is a Northwood-256 because it was the mobile Celeron used for notebooks from that family. To make matters worse, I have yet to find a .18u die size in any of three categories previously mentioned; only .13u. I don't want to have to tear apart my laptop just to find out what is lurking beneath. I only want to open it if I am going to upgrade the processor. The computer has two stickers on it from the manufacturer. One is the "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP" and the other is the blue and black "Intel Inside Celeron" like the one on this web page http://www.intel.com/products/processor/celeron/index.htm Any help identifying this sucker would be great. If you know what it is, can you tell me what socket I have? Is it upgradeable? If so, where can I purchase an upgrade? What are the overclocking characteristics of the new processor? What are the overclocking characteristics of the processor I have. I have not yet overclocked or fiddled in any way with the hardware thus far. Please help!
