the phone was bought in Asia. They don't do the shi tty locking there. We did use it with other Sim card in Asia and it's fine.

Umm I did! It doesnt do 800mhz which Cingular is about 60% of, market wise (Im a cellular engineer for Cingular BTW) The phone has to do both 800 and 1900mhz. He maybe able to use it in a 1900mhz only market but if he does any traveling even across town he maybe out of luck. In the US we only use 800/1900 for cellular use.

To further add insult to injury, there are areas where there are 1900MHz towers available, but the phone first has to 'handshake' on a control channel that is 850MHz only... :(

It's a Motorola, I don't know which model though. Probably a c series, it looks very similar to the c333 or c650. Do you physically have the phone with you, or just looking at it online?

They don't give discount if U buy with contract like we do here. U have to bargain for the price. We walked away when they call us back and accepted our price. Wife saw it and love it right away. She wanted to show off to her friends too.

You are close, but the c333 screen look shorter and the entire phone seem to be wider. According to the seller the name of this phone is "mini".
