Help! IBM 75GXP

Hi! I have an IBM 75GXP 75 GB... yeah, some people say that they cause problems. I refused to believe it until today, when my drive suddenly made this really loud noise and a vibrating sound when I turned my computer on... Does anyone know what this means? Does anyone know how IBM handles things like this? Warrenty still valid. Thanks, appreciate it 😉

If indeed it is dying (which funny noises usually mean), call up IBM and RMA the drive. They will make you send it back. Once they receive it, you will receive a new/refurbished (depending on your luck) drive of comparible size (usually a 60GXP or 75GXP, again depending on your luck).

They actually have the balls to send you a drive of lesser value? 60GXP is supposedly slower? I treated my harddrive like a baby, and this is what I get.. hmm.. i wonder if this will happen to my other 75GXP...

Nah, the 60GXP is faster than then 75GXP in all categories. It is a better drive. Hope that you get a 60GXP!! 😉

Well i still loose 15 GB if they send me the 60... maybe they will send me the 120GXP 80GB as a replacement... I don't see why they would give me anything but a 75GXP... however, we'll see...

My friend tells me that the noise coming from the hard drive could have been caused because I abrubtly (accidental) cut the power to my computer and travelling with the hard drive thus not resetting the reading head and therefore making a lot of noise. My friend also says that he fixed it by placing it on different sides??? Is this possible? Can anyone exactly describe what happens and the symptoms of a typical 75GXP crash before I RMA it and loose all my data?
