I have a Celeron II 633 OCed to 950 at 1.75 volts. It's a little over a year old, and the temp usually stays between 28 and 33, but all of a sudden my temperatures are hitting around 43 on a full load.

Could it be the fact that I took my HS/F off to test another, then put it back on? But after I put my original HS/F back on, it would idle at the same temp, but full load temp would soar up to the low 40's.

Is my CPU dying?!?

Maybe you didn't place the heatsink flush on the CPU die when you put it back on??

this is all I can think of from your description...

well, when I put it back on, and plugged it in, the idleing temp was the same, around 30. Then it'd shoot up around 42's when I do a full load.

42 isn't abnormal. Perhaps your board is reading 'more' correctly now. Methinks thou hast ein crappy HSF. What kind of heatsink do you have?

Renew your thermal paste and get some Arctic silver. That will probably help.

actually, I did reapply my thermal paste, and it is Arctic Silver. :)

It still idles at the same temp, so it must be ok right? I just don't understand why full load goes up so high now.....

I'd try re-seating the HSF on the cpu, to make sure it is exactly square at all four corners.....ie; the distance is Exactly the same.

My Celeron 633 is also at 950 1.75v
I am using the retail heatsink and fan for now. and my full load temps with RC5 are actually higher than that, thats why I bumped it back down to 633.

I better get a new heatsink and fan :)
