Was playing some BF1942 today at lunch, and got a wiff of some kinda smell like a hot component. Shut down and confirmed it came from inside my comp somewhere. I have known for at least a week now that one of the Capacitors is pooched lookin on top. Took out all my component cards and gave 'em the smell test, but can't confirm the area of the mainboard that smells.

What on earth shall I do?

RMA it to the manufacturer for repair. Is it you Epox 8RDA? If so, Epox is repairing all mobos with bad caps.

Sorry to hear about your problems man. Is this the same board you had when I tried to sell my broke 8RDA+? If so, you got a lot more use out of your board than most others have outta theirs.

Yep, same 8RDA i've had for awhile now. Been used quite a bit. I'm sure it would cost me quite a bit to warranty unless they pay return shipping. Is it an extended warranty on this problem?

You sure that it has something to do with the motherboard area and maybe not the PSU? I've never had anything fry on a mobo, But have had PSU's (DEER) smoke.

The bulging/exploding capacitor problem on Epox NF2 motherboards is well documented.

I voted for the A64/new vid card option.

Well, i've been running for awhile now hopeing it will fry everything so I can start out fresh  but the smell has not returned, which is weird because there don't seem to be any stability issues. Maybe that one bad cap just sort of fizzled instead of exploding because it was a little pooched to begin with?

The smell seemed to permiate from the area of the cap which is located below the ram slots just back of the AGP slot, but I looked at it pretty closely with a magnifying glass and could not see any real hot spots on any of the components in the nearby area, and besides which it is so hard to try and locate an exact area with the offensive odor (maybe I should shower and put some fresh clothes on, then try locating the area :) )

I guess tommorow I will send out an order for a new cap and cross my fingers (that it does not fry everything, lol) and keep running it.
