What I was trying to do was add a CD-RW to my computer. Turns out the idiots who thought up the layout of the IDE cables made them backwards. They were not long enough to flip them around to hook both CD-rom and CD-RW up so I decided to return to the original settings till I could buy some round IDE cables. Well I hooked up everything the way it was. I did not mess with any jumpers or anything else. Well when I turned the computer back on it gets to the Windows Pro 2000 "starting up " screen and hangs up. Well I disconnected the CD-rom and hooked up the CD-Rw in its place and it did the same thing. Then I disconnect the power and only had my HD hooked up. Then everything loaded fine. I hooked up my CD-rom again and made sure the bios/post detected the CD-rom and it did then at the same "Start up" screen it was still hanging up. Turns out I decide to see if it would load with some time. It hung up in that spot for 2mins then decided to boot like normal. One thing I do not remember is my HD having a steady tick to it. Seems to tick away then stop, then back to the ticking after everything I do. Before it would only tick when I was pulling up stuff, not just sitting there at idle. So it is working but with a extra 2mins of hang up time at start up of windows. I know this is one of those need to be there and test everything out by sight but thought I would see if you had any ideas. Remember I just replaced everything like it was. Could there be some type of Conflict between the HD and the CD-rom. When It is loading up on the Windows Pro 2000 screen it loads half way , then pauses for 15sec then loads up to 75%( HD stops making sound) then hangs there for 2mins(hear the HD start spinning again) and then finishes the load.
