Help! I quit Windows 98 setup and now it won't run!

I quit Windows 98 setup when I couldn't provide proof that I had a previous version of Windows. Now when I try and run setup.exe again I get a message saying "Not ready reading drive E". I've deleted my primary partition and created a new one. I've then reformatted the hard drive and it still doesn't work. BTW, I noticed when I boot off the boot disk it says Starting Windows 98 even though I never installed it and after reformatting. Anyone have any ideas what I should do? Do I need to clear something else? Thanks,

Well, setup was checking my system and it got to "please wait while setup initializes. Scanning system registry..." and then "CDR101: Not ready reading drive E" came up. Now what? Thanks,

man, thats alot of postin in 23 minutes ;-)

sounds like your disc maybe bad or the cdrom drive is... might wanna blow in the drive to make sure its not dirty

Your getting errors when reading the CD. Clean it carefully with a little windex and TP.
The Win98 setup disk builds a RAM drive on your system to do the install, basically a stripped down version of DOS with generic CD drivers.
