I usually go to a babershop to get my haircut (they charge me $9 and I give them around $3 tip). Wednesday, we were driving home and my wife and I decided to get our haircut at a local salon. They charged me $12 and my wife $5 (trimm), so I tipped them $4. My wife got mad and said that I need to tip more. She went back in and gave them $5 more. I got mad at her, because she tipps $5 for a $5 trimm everytime.

Am I wrong?

I usually think tipps being 20%, my wife says that I'm wrong.

I go to a barber shop and they charge ten bucks for a cut, I give at least two bucks for the tip. :)

I didn't know you were suppose to tip the barber until my wife told me a few years back. I thought she was crazy. Ever since I've been giving a dollar or two it depends on how good they did. I still would have to say most men don't tip the barber.

It depends on alot of things. If you get a 10 dollar haircut, but the barber spent half an hour on it, then 1 dollar is probably not enough. If it is the owner of the shop, you generally do not tip at all. Rule of thumb is at least 10 persent, more if you are really happy with it.

maybe it's women that tipps so high. She tells me since I didn't tip high, I should not go back, because I'll get a bad haircut now.

I guess I'll stick with the BarberShop.

Depending on what I have done, I usually tip the same way I do at a restaurant. Anywhere from 15-25%, depending on how I think the person did. For a stylist - were they friendly? Did you like the cut/color/whatever? Did they do anything extra (my hairstylist gives a nice head massage when she's shampooing)?

On average, for my 45 minute, $20 cut, I tip $5 if I liked the service. For my son's 5 minute, no shampoo $10 clipper cut, I tip about $2 or $3, depending on which stylist does him.

If two different stylists did you and your wife, then I'd have probably tipped $5 total; for one stylist, $4 was completely adequate.

<< No salons for this guy:) j/k >>

I second that..
A plain old barber shop is the best place to go. I really do not see much of a need to spend all that extra money ($25 at a place by Rutgers..) to have someone wash my hair, cut it, then put some junk in it.

The difference between a good haircut and a great haircut? How much/often she rubs her hooties on you!

Would anyone be interested in a topless salon? My fiancee has been entertaining the idea for quite a while now. (And no, she herself would not be topless!)

That happened to me once. It was a nice view, but made the sitting uncomfortable.

Thank goodness for having 2 majors. You can pick and choose which to say to who. CS to your friends and people who appreciate effort, economics to the hot salon women and other such party types.

I usually tip $2-$3 depending if I like the person, but I've always heard you never tip a shop owner. The barber shop I've been going to and is run by a family. The son always cuts my hair. I never know if I should tip or not because his family owns it.

$9 total for a tip is a bit outrageous. yes, they do a good job, but i think $5 no matter what they did to your hair, is plenty enough!

My barbershop charges $10.00 for a haircut and I tip $2.00. That works out to 20% which is the same as I tip at restaurants so it should be fine.

Don't matter if it is a man or woman, shopper owner or not, I always tip $2 for the hair cut. The price for the cut usually $10-$12.
